No cell phones, laptops, kindles, or iPods. Imagine going on a date with just your date - not a whole world calling or texting you out of your conversation. Unbroken personal connection = deeper relationship. Please rely on us as the one place in town you can justifiably "turn off."
The Hidden Peak Teahouse was founded on the principle that “a simple cup of tea” can change your day. For thousands of years humans have relied on this benevolent little leaf for its ability to give us fresh perspective. Accepting the challenges of the small business in the modern marketplace, combined with the fact that the country we live in is not historically a “tea culture,” we decided to go for it and give our community something special.
The lighting in the space is ambient and every setting is unique. Our tea garden patio welcomes with its burbling fountain and swaying pygmy date palms.
Some experience a recognition of clarity and intention when entering due to the integrity of a dedicated tea space. No lattes, alcohol, speed, haste, nor a population habituated to vacating the very space they occupy through their electronic devices.
We’ve combed estate sales, auction houses, and private dealers for an interesting array of ambient decor, mostly antique, mostly asian, to outfit the space.
The sounds you hear over the speakers come exclusively from an in-house collection of vintage vinyl - unless there is a live musician playing. We also provide shelves full of books and games for your entertainment.
The kitchen is stocked daily with fresh, organic, life-positive food. Rice balls mingle with fresh market pickles and hummus/cracker plates - and the desserts are certainly to live for!
People actually meet, share, talk, drink, read, play - without giving priority to a machine over the living, breathing human in front of them. Imagine that.
We offer a large selection of gung fu tea ware including: draining tables, tea tools, yixing teapots, tea pets, pitchers, strainers, cups, brushes, kettles, etc.
An element of teaism that we exalt is the usage of antiques in our daily tea practice; as such, we offer a very large and constantly changing selection of artifacts. Vintage/antique yixing ware (these come and go swiftly), Jingdezhen, Chinese and Korean celadon, Japanese raku, cloisonné, shipwreck porcelain, as well as art, curios, statuary, and carvings.
We may lean heavily towards Asian aesthetics but are not limited to them. We buy and sell any item of quality from any tea culture in the world (looking for a brown betty, samovar, Russian tea glasses, Tibetan monks bowl, Japanese tea ceremony water jar?)
All bulk teas on offer in the shop are available for complimentary tasting before purchase (to genuinely interested buyers). informative tea sessions are held every two Sundays in the private study. We hope you will call on us in your deepening appreciation for the way of tea.
